A very misunderstood statement made by many in the fitness world.
If you have success on your fat loss diet then your diet isn’t meant to be maintained long term. By its very nature a calorie deficit can’t be.
Once you’ve lost the fat you want to lose you then need to bring your energy intake up to maintenance calories to maintain your new body composition.
Ideally, The habits you form when dieting should be the foundation of the way you eat, move and live going forward. These should be sustainable. Eg eating balanced meals, being mindful of what you eat, stopping when you are full, staying active, including exercise in your busy life.
Yes, your maintenance calories will be less than when you started dieting but they will more than the calories you are losing weight on!
And, as a bonus the more you fall in love with exercise, the more energy (calories) you need to fuel and adapt to your training
